What is the Recycled Printing Papers Framework?
The framework was orginally established through the Department for Transport (DfT), supported and now run by OGC Buying Solutions and the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
The aim of the framework is to promote, develop and further expand the market to meet the demands for recycled paper used by central government departments and the wider public sector for publicity, campaign print material, publications and printed stationery. Only products pre-approved by the strict framework guidelines can be purchased along with the highly specified virgin fibre papers now accredited.
Why Purchase Recycled Paper?
There is wide recognition that landfill of waste is the worst disposal option and recycling the most desirable. Most life cycle analysis studies support this conclusion.
The purchase of recycled copier, graphics and tissue paper is necessary to provide the continued economic incentive for collections, especially from business and offices. Collection of these materials adds to only half the sustainable equation. A market for the recovered material is just as important.
Recycling is necessary to provide an alternative to landfilling of paper waste. Recycled content paper procurement is now firmly part of the Government’s sustainability policy and is increasingly becoming a significant part of a private company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
